Open "THINKING" Movement
Dr. Alec Couros presented the value of open education to our class on Wednesday and it may have been the most innovative and interesting presentation I've seen in my life. I've never been involved in a multi user virtual environment and I couldn't believe how neat it was that everyone involved could, talk to and chat to one another while watching and listening and watching to the presentation. In addition to those features, we could see Dr. Couros in real time and put our own additions onto his slides if necessary. Alec used a program from elluminate.com to make this all possible. The program uses Java to run and makes it possible for anyone in the world with an internet connection to connect with others and share ideas. The program is a cost effective version of the telephone conference call that does much much more with all of its features. With all of the options involved with this program, it makes it impossible not to be interested and follow along. Students in class can concentrate on their work easier, learn faster, and more content with a program like elluminate. I loved it!

Justin those are some fantastic points you have just made, like honestly solid. It was very different and interesting to be in an online session where videos can be shown online at the same time as the chat. It was really different and an awesoem use of technology in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was nice to see that it is "cost effective" so its easy for smaller school divison to use.
I concur Justin.
ReplyDeleteIt was probably one of the best presentations I've ever been to as well. Having presentations like this one in any classroom would keep students interested for sure!
I would have to agree that this was one of the best presentations i have been apart of. The program is defiantly cost effective Justin it is something that is basically painless when it comes to dollars. i would defiantly recommend this program to people in my teaching practices. It is so much more than a conference call, it allowed us as an audience to be involved and interactive which is something that gets students motivated. The youtube videos were such a hit and it would defiantly be something that would appeal to younger students. Good points Justin keep up the good work and i really like your other blog posts really interesting stuff.
